If the name Gary Lightbody was written on a piece of paper, very few people would know who that was or what he was associated with. Few would be aware of his talents as a singer, or his “attempts” as a guitarist. However, his signature would be his talent at working a stage and a crowd.
On the contrary, if you can make it through a week, as a music fan, without hearing the words Snow Patrol on the radio or seeing an article on Snow Patrol, like this one, then you definitely need to get out more. With a Coldplay-esque vibe and repertoire of music, their live show is one to check out.
Touring with Silversun Pickups and Ok Go makes this a tour that is a must catch. As always, Ok Go fascinated with their quirky images and fun tunes. Seeing a women being splashed with water could never have been so amusing without Ok Go jamming out to “Here It Goes Again.” Anyone with ears would enjoy them. Check them out at their website.
Snow Patrol walked on stage as would any band in America. No need to dim the lights or play some sort of suspenseful tune, walking out and waving at fans, did the trick. As building suspense is a great way to attract attention, and is fun at times, Snow Patrol just cut to the chase and started with opener, “Spitting Game.”
Frontman, Gary Lightbody, was honest right off the bat. While pointing at bassist, Paul Wilson, he unveiled the fact that Wilson had gotten in a fight with a bicycle and the bike was the victor. There are not very many people that fight with bikes and live to tell about it. For that reason, we, at Fuss Magazine, salute you, Paul Wilson.
With all that anger management honesty behind them, Snow Patrol went on to play, their single, “Chasing Cars,” a mid-tempo ballad expressing a wish to, “forget the world.” The world may not have been forgotten, but for those four and a half minutes, everything else was.
About mid-set, Lightbody scanned the audience to choose a vocalist to stand in for Martha Wainwright to perform, “Set The Fire To The Third Bar.” Finally, he found a shy, coy, young girl to play the part. Very upfront, she agreed to knowing the lyrics, but was reluctant to admit that singing wasn’t her forte. No need to second guess his choice, Lightbody stuck with her and started off the song with his infectious swagger and charm.
With a three song encore, Snow Patrol bed us farewell. Next time around let’s hope it won’t be another three years until they return to Dallas.
