This historic flight simulator has been an eye opener for how difficult it could be for a new person to get into this type of game. It took me having to read half the manual to figure out how to get off the ground. Even then, staying up was a headache. After getting off the ground, I decided to let the auto-pilot take over, which ended in a failed mission after 10-minutes. I personally believe that auto-pilot should take you to your mission objectives and not fly off course. The buggy auto-pilot also resulted in countless loops in circles or just flat out hovering the entire time. If the auto-pilot can’t even fly the chopper, how could one expect us to fly with ease? This could have been simply resolved by a good tutorial mission taking you through the basics of lift off, brief mission details, and landing. I suppose if you put in several hours of trial and error you will be able to complete the first mission.
Another down fall was the detail of ground terrain, since you spend most your time crashing. The sky terrain I found to be satisfying, as well as chopper detail. Explosives and gun shooting was great, even if you want to take out your frustration on your own base. It was a blast! The sound FX / voice could have been better as well as a soundtrack that would go with the game. Details before the mission, as well as machinery and weapons were very thorough, adding very interesting facts for users. Since the missions were based on real life Vietnam events, this adds a realistic mindset while you are trying to complete the mission objectives.
In my opinion, this will be a very selective flight simulator, targeting the Vietnam War fanatics. However, for beginner flight simulator gamers, you might want to start out with one that has a tutorial mission first.
The Positive
Extensive control
The Negative
Long Load Times
Poor Mission Detail
Finicky Auto Pilot
Lacked Training Ops
